Thorpe Waterville is situated on the A605, about 4 ½ miles south of Oundle and 3 miles north-east of Thrapston. The A14 is within easy reach, making the village well placed for those needing to use the motorway network or commute by train to London. Thorpe Waterville and Achurch form the Parish of Thorpe Achurch.
Castle Barn, within the village, was the great hall of Thorpe Waterville Castle. It has early 14th Century origins. In 1301 Walter de Langton, the Bishop of Lichfield was given licence to ‘crenellate’ (fortify) and the Castle may well have been only a fortified manor house. The castle earthworks and barn are Scheduled Ancient Monuments. The bridge to the west of the village also dates from the 14th Century. Thorpe Waterville is in the primary school catchment for Aldwincle Trinity C E Primary and the catchment for the Middle School and Prince William School in Oundle.
