Elton is a desirable village, situated above the River Nene, as it meanders towards Wansford and Peterborough. There is a good range of facilities within the village, including a shop / post office, a garage,  two public houses, two churches, a garden centre and a Loch Fyne restaurant. There is also a Church of England primary school.

Surrounded by gently rolling countryside, there are many footpaths and bridleways leading from the village. Elton has a cricket club with grounds over-looking Elton Hall.

The traditional market towns of Stamford and Oundle lie to the North and South respectively, and offer a range of shops in historic settings.

There is an excellent choice of state and private schooling in Peterborough, Oundle and Stamford. 

Six miles to the North East, Peterborough offers a wide range of shopping and leisure facilities. There is a frequent rail service to London King's Cross taking approximately 50 minutes.
