The much admired village of Fotheringhay is a beautiful conservation village, retaining much of its historic character and beauty, set between the River Nene and Willow Brook as they meander thier way through the neighbouring countryside. Within the village is the prominent church of St Mary, formerly an ecclesiastical college in the 14th century. Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned and beheaded at the castle, the mound of which can still be seen adjacent to the river and ancient arch bridge as one enters the village. The historic market town of Oundle lies about three miles to the South and offers a good range of family run shops, businesses and restaurants, set around the traditional market place. There is an excellent choice of schooling. More extensive facilities, including main line rail travel are available in Peterborough (King’s Cross 50 mins). Fotheringhay is in the primary school catchment for Nassington Primary and the catchment for the Middle School in King's Cliffe and Prince William School in Oundle.
